ASME Section IX Decoded is a hands-on, three-day workshop designed to help participants understand and comply with ASME Section IX requirements for Welding, Brazing, and Fusing Qualifications. You’ll gain a practical understanding of Section IX, including welding processes, variables, and basic steel welding metallurgy, ensuring you can confidently interpret and apply its standards.

The workshop will focus on writing cost-effective welding procedures that enhance manufacturing processes, along with qualifying welders, brazers, and operators efficiently. Personalized time will be available to address specific challenges. Attendees receive a hard copy of the latest ASME Section IX and will earn 20 PDHs, with the option to earn an additional 4 PDHs by completing post-event assignments within 30 days.

Walter J. Sperko

Walter J. Sperko, P.E. is the President of Sperko Engineering Services, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in metal fabrication technology, including welding, heat treating, inspection, and quality assurance. With extensive expertise in piping and pressure vessel fabrication, installation, and repair, Walter has worked in leadership roles at RECO North Carolina, ITT Grinnell Industrial Piping, Inc., and EBASCO Services, Inc.

Walter has held numerous influential positions, including past-Chairman of the ASME Welding, Brazing, and Fusing Standards Committee IX and roles on several key ASME and AWS committees. A registered Professional Engineer in multiple states, Walter holds six US patents and is a Fellow of ASME and a Counselor of AWS. He earned his BA and BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
