Peter J. Nicklas, Asset Integrity – Occidental Oil & Gas

Peter Nicklas received his BS in Welding Engineering from LeTourneau University in 1998.  He began his career in R&D with two major consumables manufacturers, focusing on cored wires and submerged arc fluxes, lectured on new product technology and developments both in the US and internationally.  Peter also has fabrication and Quality Management experience, from small fabrication shops to large scale international construction projects.  He and his family have lived in Finland and South Korea. 

In his current position, Peter is the subject matter expert in welding & material joining for Occidental Petroleum Corporation, colloquially known as Oxy, based in Houston, Texas.  He is part of the functional Asset Integrity team and oversees the welding program covering new construction, repairs, and failure analysis for Oxy’s business units worldwide.  He is current member of API Standard 1104, Annex B subcommittee for in-service welding, and participates in multiple AWS subcommittees.  He chairs API RP 577- Welding Processes, Inspection and Metallurgy, and as well as chapter editor for AWS Welding Handbook Volume 4, Materials and Applications - Chapter 5, Stainless and Heat Resistant Steels.
